Banking & Financial Services (BFS) companies are on a different risk footing from Manufacturing and Other Services (MOS) companies.  

  • For BFS, risk exposure is a matter of choice i.e. they can choose not to take the risk (say, credit risk on a party) and in the process, not earn the profit.

  • MOS earn profits out of their products and services; in the process of doing that business, they get exposed to risk (say, foreign exchange risk on imports).Thus, risk exposure is not a matter of choice, but a logical extension of their regular business. 

Unfortunately, most regulators, literature and programs focus on risk management for BFS companies. Consequently, MOS companies tend to underplay risk and its management.

Mr. Sundar Sankaran, director of Advantage-India Consulting Pvt. Ltd., and author of several publications, facilitates the program.
Sundar has a Post-Graduate Diploma in Management from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (1986-88). He is also a qualified Company Secretary and Cost Accountant.
Sundar has held senior positions in Kotak Mahindra and Bajaj Auto.  He is also a member of the Finance & Banking Committee of the Indian Merchants' Chamber
